The 2010 ASOCIO (Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Association) ICT Summit concluded on Friday, Dec. 3, after three days of fruitful interchanges and the signing of multiple pacts with international partners, said organizer Information Service Industry Association of R.O.C. (CISA).

During the ICT Summit and the accompanying ICT Month exhibition, Taiwan signed memorandums of understanding (MOU) with information service associations in Vietnam and Malaysia to promote more comprehensive industry cooperation and exchange, the CISA said. The business match meetings and exhibitions held in the ICT Summit and ICT Month also achieved spectacular results, especially in the area of information security. The events facilitated the signing of MOUs including a three-year US$45 million MOU pact between the Decision Group and a Hong Kong telecom company and also MOUs by the Taiwan-based Jrsys International with telecom companies in Lithuania, South Korea, Pakistan and Thailand.

In his opening speech at the ICT Summit, President Ma Ying-jeou pointed out that the signing of the cross-strait economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) helps Taiwan to increase participation in regional integration in Asia-Pacific and also provides a golden opportunity for Taiwanese businesses. He encouraged local entrepreneurs to dedicate themselves to and play key roles in the global ICT industry.

Information technology is one of the industries promoted in the government's “Six Key Emerging Industries Promotion Plan,” Ma pointed out. He encouraged Taiwanese information technology businesses to increase their added-value through soft-hardware integration and help Taiwan maintain its status as an important production base for information technology and communication products

ASOCIO President Looi Kien-Leong praised the Taiwanese organizer of the ICT Summit, saying that the Taipei event is the first time in the ASOCIO's history where all the member organizations participated. He said he was amazed by Taiwan's comprehensive ICT infrastructure and described Taiwan as a model for other ASOCIO members.
