TAIWAN has shown a keen interest in establishing and exploring trading links with Brunei Darussalam and expressed hopes to be one of the strong developing partners.

Terry GC Ting, Taiwan Cultural and Economic Office Representative, identified the common areas of mutual interest and possible cooperation such in agriculture, nothing that Taiwan possesses high standards, the concept of“green”energy and Halal branding signifying a huge interest in teaming up with Brunei business partners.One area in particular could be a telling factor in forging business links.

Taiwan has not only proven that it is capable“to be the best of the best”as stated by Terry in SMEs but also as the leading global supplier in the world with its industrial experience.

Foxconn Technology Group, a Taiwan-based industry is also highly valued as a subcontractor of the Apple iPhone, specialising in electronic components. Other global brands include Acer, one of the most established businesses in technology information in the world and Asus, said Ms I-ting Chen, Project Manager of Taiwan External Trade Development Council.

Although Terry considers the need to talk to take small steps at a time classifying this years as“a year of action”, he showed optimism of linking with business prospects in Brunei.

He said that Brunei is a suitable investment destination because of its“good political stability, excellent location and social tranquility”.

“Brunei is not only an Abode of Peace but it is also a paradise for foreign investment,”he said. “We really want to be a trading partner of Brunei. We want long-term relations with Brunei. The representatives from Taiwanese companies for the TechXpo will only be here for three days but we hope that they could come here every year,”he added.

Taiwan is also looking to build“better connectivity”through the local business association to accommodate the established companies and the opportunity to provide an overview of Taiwan’s sophisticated industries to the Brunei players.

Attended by leading entrepreneurs, there was also a brief demonstration of an animated robot called“UrRobot”, which is suitable for children. I-Ting Chen said that if a person touches the monkey-shaped head, the robot would respond,“That’s nice”.
